Paluto sa Fishing Port: A Must-Try in Iloilo

The Iloilo Fish Port Complex (Fishing Port) is a major center of fish trading and marine products processing. The fishing port is the traditional landing site of bag netters and other fishing bancas in Iloilo City and nearby towns. It houses the unloading and marketing facilities for fish and aquatic products for local and foreign markets.

The post will focus more on the paluto part. It has become famous for friends and family to come here for dinner. The prices are cheap and ideal for group celebrations.

How to Paluto?

  1. Find the Talipapa area (market).
  2. Pay for the fish and other seafood you like. You can buy per kilo from the various stalls. Prices may vary per day.
  3. Find the paluto stalls at the end part of the talipapa.
  4. Take the seafood you bought to the paluto stall of your choice and instruct them how you want the bought seafood done. You can have it grilled, fried, souped, stewed or soured. You can also ask them for suggestions.
  5. Cooking time is 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  6. You can order your rice and drinks from the stall.
  7. Pay the paluto fees. Prices can vary depending on their rates.

Additional tips

  1. The area is not upscale. Please manage your expectations. The setup usually is a bamboo or wooden table, Monoblock chairs, and tarpaulin or sacks as the roof and wall.
  2. Some groups bring their cake in case your visit is for a birthday celebration.
  3. Wear comfortable clothes. It is best to wear slippers or rubber footwear. Don’t wear your white sneakers and high-heels.
  4. Bring mosquito repellant lotion, alcohol, wipes, and other essentials.
  5. Check the weather because it can be challenging if it is raining.
