Share Iloilo: Duog Hidait (Peace Hold) – Paul Angelou Patiño Art Exhibit

Last October 28, 2017, we came to Cinematheque Iloilo to join the European Film Festival and that was also the time when one promising Ilonggo visual artist by the name of Paul Angelo was having his exhibit entitled “ Duog Hidait (Peace Hold) the Exhibitions”.

This is the exhibition by Paul Angelou Patiño, a Fine Arts student at the University of San Agustin. His artworks mainly speak about forgiveness and redemption inspired by Philippine Literature.

Paul Angelou Patiño as an Artist

The visual artist is a 22-year-old student who is currently in his 4th year at the University of San Agustin. He is taking up a Bachelor of Fine Arts – a course for everyone who has a passion for art and everyone who wants to improve themselves more in various art forms such as painting, drawing, sculpting, and performance arts.

Painting as His Passion

Every fine art student has his/her strength when it comes to art forms. For Paul, painting is one of his strengths along with Digital Art which he likes because of the medium and he is using these for his purposes.

The Artist Inspirations

He draws his inspiration from his hobbies – playing video games and watching fiction like cartoons and anime. Through these activities, he can come up with ideas to create his world, stories, and characters for his thesis.

The animators and the developers are his main inspiration when it comes to designing characters, references, stories and plots that they use in developing their games and stories. To give his personal touch, he made Philippine Literature and Mythology (especially in Panay) to create his world and characters. Visible examples in his artworks are Hinilawod and Bakunawa.

Aside from them, he is also a big fan of JRR Tolkien – the author of the famous Lord of the Ring and The Hobbit.

I may not have a good camera to capture everything but I will try my best to take you on a virtual tour in Paul’ Duog Hidait in case you have missed it.
