Metro Iloilo, Guimaras Ink Active Alliance

The Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC) Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed by (in photo) League of Municipalities-Guimaras represented by Sibunag Mayor Annabelle V. Treñas, Leganes Mayor Vicente P. Jaen II, Santa Barbara Mayor Dennis S. Superficial, and Oton Municipal Administrator Eusebio G. Villavicencio, Jr. representing Mayor Sofronio L. Fusin, Jr.

The MIGEDC MOA signing by Local Chief Executives (LCEs) of member Local Government Units (LGUs) was done during a meeting at City Hall Penthouse on April 26, 2023.

The LCEs likewise presented and approved Work and Financial Plans for 2023-2024. They further proposed projects and future endeavors adjusting to the new normal as well as created and formulated new ideas and concepts.

MIGEDC was created under Presidential Executive Order No. 559, s. 2006. The Inter-LGU Alliance aims to formulate, coordinate and monitor programs, projects, and activities for the acceleration of economic growth and development for Metro Iloilo covering Iloilo City, Oton, Pavia, Leganes, Sta Barbara, Cabatuan, San Miguel, and the Province of Guimaras with its League of Municipalities.

The MIGEDC has been actively working in 2022, securing its stability in consolidating policies that will increase public awareness of the organization. While MIGEDC is currently in the planning phase for various projects for 2023-2024, the Council is expected to further enhance the cooperation and partnership as member cities, towns, and provinces, and the LCEs need to constantly convene and strategize these endeavors to attain an ideal metropolitan teamwork aspired to be presented to the constituents.

Moving forward, programs and projects slated for two consecutive years have been identified for approval, implementation, or endorsement by different concerned national government agencies, all are specified by the Project Steering Committee members to be advantageous to the MIGEDC population.
