“Sa Una nga Butlak” (in the first light of dawn) there is light and hope. It is an Art Exhibition by Baryo Balangaw Creative Initiatives.

Even in the middle of the pandemic, women of Baryo Balangaw is facing every day with a joy within them discovering the talents that will inspire. Every stroke of paint brings gratitude for the gift of laughter and togetherness. Every output’s intention is to spread encouragement.

About the Art Exhibition

Participating artists are women farm folks. This time, instead of farm field setup, they were given a chance to have comfortable place to hold a paint brush. They can freely express their life stories, the desires of their hearts and the feelings they need to let out.

“This is what I painted because this is my means of making money. I am happy because my income from selling is helping us in the expenses at home. It also helps me send my kids to school.”

“I grew up in the barrio. Planting rice was the main source of income. I was helping my parents in tending the carabaos. After school, we help in the farm works. Up until now, I have a lot of carabaos to tend. I am wonder bakera.”

“The sun has not risen yet but us farmers together with our carabaos are already starting plowing and planting the rice fields. This is the source of income of the parents where they get the funds to send their children to schools.”

“This quote is my inspiration. My parents are dressmakers and they are the reason why I am a dressmaker now. Dressmaking is a big help as our source of income. Together with my husband who is a farmer, my inspiration to come up with this output of a farm field with machinery in the middle.

“My painting reflects the story of my life. This is the source of my income to reach my goals in life. My goal is to for my sons to finish their education. I am a single parent because my husband died when my eldest was only two and my youngest was nine-month-old.”

“I was born and raised here in the barrio and this is what I chose to paint. Typical houses here are surrounded by variety of plants. I really love planting ornamentals and vegetables. What I painted reflects the life in the barrio – peaceful and full of love.”

“We live in the place where mountains are lying on top of another. Soon as wake up, I can see these seven hills. I painted this also symbolizing the seven colors of the rainbow. I really love to see the seven hills every day.”
