Iloilo City Cultural Heritage: Lizares Mansion

Don Emiliano Lizares y Alunan gave Architect Andres Luna de San Pedro a free hand in erecting a residence for his family with Doña Conchita Gamboa y López, with no limit on the budget. The result is this 1937 mansion in lloilo, originally planned as the only structure within the 100 hectares Don Emiliano acquired for this purpose. The Japanese forces used it as a garrison. Eight attempts to burn it during World War II were all in vain.

Lizares Mansion

The Lizares family resided in the house until the demise of Don Emilio towards the end of the 1950s. Thereafter, Doña Conchita preferred to reside with her children. The house is now utilized as the private quarters of the Dominicans running Angelicum School within the Lizares premises under an agreement with the Lizares heirs.
