TRIBU ILONGANON of Jalandoni Memorial National High School

Tribu llonganon, founded in 1984 is the pride of Jalandoni Memorial National High School (JMNHS) (formerly known as Lapuz High School). The term “tribu” comes from the Latin word “Tribus” which means “masses” and “longanon” from the Hiligaynon word “Ilonggo” – which is derived from the Spanish term “irong-irong”, referring to the Filipino word for the nose “ilong”; and an islet in the Batiano River in Panay.

The term “Ilonggo” is considered to define a specific group of people whose ethnic origins are in the provinces of Iloilo, Guimaras, and Panay. The year 2005 marked the birth of Tribu Ilonganon for JMNHS made a daring move to join the tougher competition – the Dinagyang Contest Open Category. Even though the tribe was a first-timer, it was declared 2nd Runner-up. It grabbed the glory by winning the coveted Champion of Dinagyang Festival 2006 and was awarded Best in Performance, Best in Choreography, and Best Choreographer.

In 2007, the tribe once again won and was awarded Best in Performance and Best in Costume. As a two-time Champion in Dinagyang, Ilonganon became Iloilo City’s participant in the National Street Dance Competition, the Aliwan Festival, where it bagged 2nd Place in 2006 and 2007. The tribe has been privileged to perform in various municipalities and socio-civic organizations in the Philippines namely: Bangus Festival 2006 at Dagupan City, Pangasinan, 108th Philippine Independence Day at Quirino Grandstand, Manila, and Pattaraday Festival at Santiago City, Isabela.

It was awarded 1st Runner-up in 2008, 2nd Runner-up in 2009 and 2012, and 1st Runner-up in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, the tribe was awarded 2nd Runner-up, Best in Music and Best Musical Director.

In 2016, the tribe grabbed the 1st Runner-Up and the Best in Discipline awards In 2017 & 2018, the tribe was awarded 2nd Runner-Up and Best in Discipline. In 2019 Tribu llonganon was once again declared as the Dinagyang Festival Grand Champion, Best in Choreography. Best Choreographer and Best in Discipline. In 2020, the tribe was awarded 2nd runner-up, Best in Costume and Best Costume Designer.

TRIBU MANDU-RIYAW of Mandurriao National High School

Iloilo City is rich in cultural and religious festivals. One of its famous tourism events is the world-renowned DINAGYANG FESTIVAL. This festive event traces its roots as a thanksgiving celebration in honor of the child Jesus, Sr. Sto Nino, and likewise showcases the rich heritage, colorful history, passionate devotion, and fun-loving spirit of the Ilonggo people. Coupled with faithful devotion to Sr. Sto. Nino and to our commitment to help boost the local tourism industry, we are proud to present TRIBU MANDU-RIYAW of Mandurriao National High School in Dinagyang 2024.

Before being active in the Dinagyang Ati Competition, Tribu Mandu-Riyaw successfully conquered the Kasadyahan Competition arena using different names under its flagship: Tribu Babaylan, Tribu Kalinaw, Tribu Mandurriaonon, and Tribu Madyaas and having bagged the championship trophy in Kasadyahan 2000 under its name Tribu lgorot. With the blossoming participation of other emerging tribes from around the provinces, our school rested for a while. We gained momentum in the year 2011 and bravely joined for the first time in the Dinagyang Ati Competition under the name Tribu Manduryaw and had brought honor to the school and the Mandurriao community by getting the top five (5) Best Performing Tribe that year and Best in Discipline Award.

However, due to insufficient funding and a lack of musical equipment to augment our meager resources, our tribe was not able to continue its noble purpose. Mandurriao National High School sailed with pride once again under the mighty name Tribu Amihan which victoriously put us in the 5th runner-up over-all rank in the Dinagyang Festival 2017 Aroused by our burning desire and devotion to the Holy Child Jesus, Mandurriao National High School spread its wing and soared once again this year with pride and might under the name TRIBU MANDU-RIYAW, a locally coined spelling of the word Mandurriao. With its impressive choreography, and striking costumes hand in hand with the ingenuity, craftsmanship, and artistry of our talented, enthusiastic, and skilled choreographers, visual artists, dance directors, enthusiastic performers, and the unwavering support of our school and its staff, we are confident of a competitive entry to this year. TRIBU MANDU-RIYAW is one tribe to watch for this year. VIVA TRIBU Mandu-Riyaw! VIVA SR. STO NINO!

TRIBU PAGHIDAET of Lapaz National High School

TRIBU PAGHIDAET, the Dinagyang Tribe nurtured by La Paz National High School, first joined the Iloilo Dinagyang Ati Tribe Competition in 1999. The name TRIBU PAGHIDAET is still adopted because Lapazenians believe that Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, the district’s Patroness, peacefully and brightly beacons all llonggos to Her son Jesus, whose childhood, we venerate and honor as Senor Sto. Nino, especially during this Dinagyang Festivity.

In the eighteen (18) years of tribe participation, Tribu Paghidaet has bagged runner-up positions and six championship awards. (The tribe did not participate in the years, 2005, 2006, and 2013.) The tribe has always been blessed with dedicated school heads and skilled choreographers and artistic team, hardworking teachers, and a committed PTA; hence, it’s excellent performance in this world-renowned festivity.

TRIBU PAN-AY of Fort San Pedro National High School

TRIBU SALOGNON of Jaro National High School

The inaugural participation of TRIBU SALOGNON as a contesting tribe in the Dinagyang Festival was in the year 2004 when the school management heeded the invitation of the Dinagyang Foundation, Inc. to participate in its yearly festivities. Through the years of its continued participation in the Dinagyang
Festival, the tribe earned itself numerous honors as well as prestigious awards. It even participated in other festivals outside of Iloilo City and eventually became champion in the Passi City Pintados Festival in 2008.

The crowning glory of Tribu Salognon was in 2016 when it was declared as Grand Champion in the Dinagyang Grand Ati Tribe Dance Competition and became Iloilo City’s lone entry to Manila’s Aliwan Fiesta in the same year where it garnered the 2nd Prize Award for the Grand National Dance Competition. Because of its exemplary cultural presentation and dance performance, Tribu Salognon was invited to perform and grace the occasion of the 118th Philippine Independence Day celebration in New York City, USA in June 2016. In the same year, the tribe was invited to perform at the 50th T’nalak Festival of Koronadal City the sister City of Iloilo City. The winning performances of Tribu Salognon continued to soar in 2017 when the tribe was crowned as the Grand Champion of the Dinagyang Festival awards as Best in Performance, Best in Street Dance, Best in Music, and Best in Costume of the Year and eventually brought back Iloilo’s pride when it was declared as the 2017 Manila Grand Champion in the Aliwan Festival with numerous awards such as Best in Costume and Best Musical Accompaniment and garnered 3rd place at the Tugtug sa Aliwan in the same year.

Owing to the tribe’s excellence and commendable cultural performance under the strong leadership of its principal Dr. Belinda V. Dinopol, the entire ensemble of Tribu Salognon has been invited to perform at the Anseong Baudeogi Festival in Anseong City, South Korea, and at the Farmers Santa Parade, in Auckland City, New Zealand, on September 26, 201 7, and November 23, 2017, respectively. In 2018 Tribu Salognon was declared as 1st Runner Up in the Ati Tribes Competition of the Dinagyang Festival and garnered awards as Best in Discipline, Best in Street Dance, Best in Costume, and Best Costume Designer. For its part, the success of Tribu Salognon is attributable to the kindred spirit of the faculty and staff, students and alumni, parents, and the community. and its corporate sponsors.

TRIBU SILAK of Iloilo City National High School

Iloilo City National High School’s Tribu Silak started in 1998 with its name “Tribu Lunok” which was organized by the late, Mr. Ronnie Baretta. In 2005, they changed their name to “Tribu Silak” and garnered the best in choreography, performance, and music awards.

In 2012, the tribe returned its original name to “Tribu Lunok” headed by Sir Ramil C. Huyatid, and became the 1st runner-up in the event. Tribu Lunok was also the first tribe who perform in the Pasinaya Festival in Manila at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. In 2013 the Tribe changed its name again to Tribu Panayanon until 2020 and emerged as champions in the years 2013,2014,2015 and 2018.

This year, Iloilo City National High School participates in the Dinagyang Festival Ati Tribe Competition once again with the name “Tribu Silak” symbolizing the dawn of a new beginning with the blessings of Senior Sto. Nino-being bigger, better, and wonderful – in the past, now, and in the years to come.

TRIBU TAGA BARYO of Bo. Obrero National High School

The Tribe is based in Brgy. Bo. Obrero, Lapuz and started joining in the year 2014 as Tribu Obreros under the leadership of Ms. Mercedes Clavaton. It continued to strengthen the devotion of Baryohanon as they participated annually in Dinagyang. Presently, Obreros was renamed to Tribu Taga-Baryo.

TRIBU SIGABONG of Ramon Avanceña National High School

For years, Ramon Avanceña National High School’s Tribu Dagatnon has been part of the religious and cultural celebration, the Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo. Starting its journey in 2016, the tribe placed 4th Runner-Up in 2018 and 3rd Runner in 2019. It placed 4th Runner again in 2020 in the Dinagyang 360, amidst the challenges brought back by the pandemic.

This year, Tribu Dagatnon continues the journey bearing its original name, TRIBU SIGABONG. Tribu Sigabong which placed 3rd Runner-up garnered Best in Costume and Best in Discipline back in 2004. Tribu Sigabong is coined from the sound of the firecrackers and pyrotechnics which the Arevalo district is famous for.

To give an astounding performance, Tribu Sigabong is back. Tribu Sigabong will conquer the streets with the beats of the drums the beaming smiles and vibrant energy of the student performers and with much fervor and strong devotion to Sr. Sto. Niño. 1. Hello Shemae, Me (Anabelle) & my husband (Chris) will be in Iloilo Dinagyang time 27 & 28th and he’s an American so I wanted to show him our culture! Where is the best area or hotel where we could stay and still see the Parade? Or do I need to get tickets to see it in the Grand Stand so he will really enjoy it? Please give a good advise! Thank you!

    1. Hi Anabelle! Thank you for dropping by the comments section. If you wish to see the main event, I suggest you book a hotel downtown because major streets will be closed during the highlights. You can check Days Hotel or Citadines Iloilo (Amigo) if they still have rooms available. Hotels like Parkinn, Richmond, Marriot, and AirBnBs around Megaworld and SM areas are also okay as there will also be side/mini Dinagyang events in SM-Megaworld-Mandurriao areas (though not the highlight event). You will need to buy tickets if you prefer to see the performances live but if you opt to walk around the city, check the food festival, take photos, and enjoy the drumbeats, you can also stay on the streets as tribes will also be passing by performing their mini-street-dance performances. Hope this helps and see you around Iloilo!

  2. May tickets pa nga available for a certain judging area?thanks
