CPU Hosts “Launch Ignition” for Budding Startups

1

Last April 30, 2025, Central Philippine University’s CPUGAD TBI held “Launch Ignition: 9-Step Blueprint for Startup Success,” and the energy of these student founders was inspiring.

Ilonggo ingenuity was on full display, and the event was all about equipping the young guns with the practical know-how to launch them strategically and grow with a clear purpose. The goal is to build businesses that aren’t just about the bottom line, but also contribute positively to our community and the environment.

Spearheading this initiative was none other than Cris Vinson, the founder of Civy and Primof, and he’s an advocate for empowering startups and changemakers.

The “Launch Ignition” program is not the typical lecture hall snooze-fest. It was a highly interactive and engaging experience, designed to get these young founders thinking and doing. Here’s a peek at some of the key sessions:

  • Avatar Making: This exercise focused on getting down to the essence of their ventures – who are they trying to serve? The detailed “avatar” of the founders’ ideal customer could sharpen their focus and tailor their solutions.
  • Niche Targeting: Being specific is a superpower. Participants identified their unique niche and crafted solutions that directly address the needs of their target audience.
  • Beyond Elevator Pitching: The session aimed to help the young entrepreneurs move beyond the surface-level spiel and articulate their vision with genuine confidence and clarity. It’s about conveying the “why” behind the “what.”
  • Business Coaching: The professionals offer their insights on their budding business ideas. The coaching sessions provided invaluable feedback, helping the founders refine their concepts and consider different angles for growth.

The impact of the program was evident in the feedback from the participants. Matt Fto, Founder & CEO of Packup, described it as “not just educational but eye-opening.” That’s the kind of transformative learning we love to see!

Prime Nicolli Acdol, CEO & Founder of LECA, highlighted the deeper understanding he gained regarding market segmentation and strategic frameworks. These are the fundamental building blocks that can significantly influence the trajectory of any growing startup, making this a crucial takeaway.

Adding their perspective, Laurence Gabriele Avelino and Shane De La Torre, COOs of LECA, shared that the program was “fun, insightful, and emotional” – a powerful combination that suggests a truly engaging experience. They also felt a strong sense of validation for their current path and gained practical tools to further develop their initiatives.

“Launch Ignition” at CPUGAD TBI is a help for the local startup ecosystem. Providing practical guidance, real-world perspectives, and a dose of encouragement is exactly what these aspiring Ilonggo entrepreneurs need to turn their innovative ideas into thriving businesses.

Let’s continue to champion these kinds of initiatives and celebrate the drive and creativity of our young Ilonggo innovators.
