SM City Iloilo launches its “FREE TO FEED Championing Safe Spaces for Breastfeeding” campaign in celebration of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. As part of the SM Cares Program, Ilonggo mothers gathered for the inspiring Free to Feed Forum and Exhibit at SM City Iloilo.
This event is a powerful step towards promoting safe spaces for breastfeeding, aligning perfectly with the celebration of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month.
Establishments like SM City Iloilo are mandated by law to provide a space where women can do their lactation. Aside from mall goers, employees are also allowed to extract their milk while at work. Employers are to set guidelines and policies with regard to the use of their facilities.
SM City Iloilo is proud to say that even before the full implementation of the law. The mall ensures the existence of a supportive environment where mothers can breastfeed wherever and avoid the stigma of breastfeeding in public.
The discussion also revealed that their guards, employees, and nurses are orientated when it comes to their breastfeeding guidelines.
In addition, the general public can also support the breastfeeding movement further. You can join the photography contest and have a chance to win Php30,000 (for pair of photographers and a mother subject).
To join, submit the following on or before August 21, 2023:
1. One (1) original photo of a mother breastfeeding at any SM Supermall branch
2. Photo title, story (150 words or less), and mall location
3. All required information and Signed Release Forms

To promote breastfeeding, it’s important to create a supportive environment for new mothers. This includes education about the benefits of breastfeeding, providing access to breastfeeding resources and support groups, and ensuring workplace policies that accommodate breastfeeding mothers.
