Rising Soon: Iloilo City’s 8-Storey Legislative Building

Iloilo City Legislative Building will soon rise. Last October 18, 2021, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas led the groundbreaking ceremony of the P400-million building with parking and foot bridge connected to City Hall for easy access to clients.

This building aims to provide a more conducive working environment for the city’s legislators. The legislation – Sangguniang Panlungsod is headed by the Vice-Mayor-elected, city councilors and ex-officio members.

State-Of-The-Art Multi-Purpose Facility

“What we want is to benchmark at session hall of Makati so that we will also have a beautiful session hall here. Something that we will be proud of – we will have the best Legislative Building in the whole Philippines,” Treñas said.

The first floor will be the location of the city offices. This aims that the public will have an easier access of transacting their business.

The second to fifth floors will be the parking spaces allotted for the automobiles. Each floor can accommodate 25 cars or a total of 100 cars for four floors.

The other two floors of the legislative building will be the home of city councilors’ offices. These new offices will be more spacious and cozy. Currently, they are located on the 6th floor of the Iloilo City Hall.

“The walls of this building that will house our legislators will be the witness of the hard work and perseverance of our local government leaders as they craft ordinances and resolutions for the betterment of the city and generate resources and revenues for the city’s development plans, program objectives, and priorities,” Treñas said.

“By providing our legislators a more conducive working environment, we are also entrusting them a big chunk of our city’s future, our children, and our grandchildren’s future, so we can only provide the best for them,” he added.

The new building includes three elevators. Its location will be beside Ker and Co. heritage building along Ortiz Street. This is behind the Iloilo City Hall and the Museum of Philippine Economic History.
