Marine Biodiversity is essential in a rapidly developing city like Iloilo. A stable food supply is needed where food demands are high.
This is why MORE Power focused its green initiatives each year on planting Mangroves, this time in Brgy. Hinactacan in Lapaz.
75 employees of MORE Power including the company’s security personnel touted as Guardian of the Environment, took part in the project by planting 200 seedlings.
“Ini siya breeding ground of aquatic spaces nagabulig man sa atun source of livelihood. Naga protect man sa embankment. In terms of storm surges and typhoons. Kag naga carbon sink, air and water condition,” says Susan Abellana, Representative from CENRO.
Mangroves play a crucial role in the environment and offer numerous benefits to both ecosystems and human communities. Despite their many benefits, mangroves are under threat from factors such as deforestation, urbanization, agriculture, and aquaculture development. Conservation efforts, sustainable management practices, and raising awareness about the importance of mangroves are essential for preserving these critical ecosystems and the services they provide to the environment and society.
While planting, they too gathered trash along the way brought by irresponsible garbage disposal.
At the end of the activity, they gathered 50 sacks of garbage which included plastic for various purposes, bottles, and cans.
The power company also aims to highlight among the residents the importance of stewardship to their environment, which includes responsible waste disposal and consistent cleaning of the Mangrove area in their community.
“Our partnership with the Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources underscores our commitment to environmental stewardship. This is just one example of how MORE Power fulfills its corporate social responsibility,” says Armie Logarta, Department Head, OIC – Power Project Development and Management of MORE Power.
MORE Power aims to help in Iloilo City’s Green initiatives to protect the environment and help in food stability campaigns of the city.
