Metro Pacific Donates Water Reservoir Tanks, Plans Desalination Plant

The City Government thanked Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) for their continuous efforts to provide water supply to the Ilonggo community.

Mayor Jerry Treñas gave the Certificate of Appreciation to MPIW Business Area Head Kathleen Guillermo, Corporate Affairs Officer Mary Jane Josue, and Public Relations Officer Louge Mueño, during Monday’s flag-raising ceremony on Nov. 7.

Treñas expressed gratitude to MPIW for donating two water reservoir tanks to public markets through the Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO), particularly during times there is a dire need for safe water due to the prevalence of water-borne diseases.

LEEO head Maricel Mabaquiao said the water tanks, each with a capacity of 2,000 liters, will be used to provide vendors and marketgoers with an adequate source of potable water.

The mayor said the distribution company continues to make initiatives to prioritize the safety and well-being of its consumers through providing safe water, as they intend to invest in a water accelerated plant with a project estimated cost of P2 billion to improve the city’s water supply, mitigate the effects of climate change, and augment supplies to meet water demands.

“I am committed to helping MPIW get the permits from the city and DPWH for faster work as they reach the demand for water needs of the city. I think this will be the single biggest investment for next year, with the desalination plant located in Brgy. Ingore, La Paz,” Treñas stressed.

Water is one of the most essential commodities in the metro, and the City Government assures the public, together with partner agencies, that it is fully supportive of moving forward with the water desalination project, which is targeted to begin next year. (Andrea Pearl Fernandez/Iloilo City PIO)
