UPHSI has New Democratized Admission Policy Starting AY 2023-2024

The University of the Philippines High School in Iloilo (UPHSI) will implement a new Democratized Admission Policy starting in Academic Year (AY) 2023-2024, based on a memorandum released by the Office of the Chancellor dated Oct. 25, 2022.

For UPHSI junior high school, there will be 70 slots available for the said AY. Of the number, 49 slots, or 70 percent, will be for families with an income of less than P250,000 annually.

The remaining 21 slots, or 30 percent, will be opened to other applicants on the basis of the following:

  • 10 slots (15 percent) – open to all
  • 7 slots (10 percent) – for UP alumni dependents
  • 4 slots (5 percent) – for UP employee’s dependents

Meanwhile, 35 slots will be available for senior high school. Similarly, the 24 slots, or 70 percent, will be for families with an income of less than P250,000 annually.

Eleven slots, which is 30 percent, will be available on the basis of the following:

  • 5 slots (15 percent) – open to all
  • 4 slots (10 percent) – for UP alumni dependents
  • 2 slots (5 percent) – for UP employee’s dependents

Slots shall be opened to all in cases when the slots for dependents of UP alumni and employees remain unfilled.

The change in the Democratized Admission Policy is based on the recommendation of the UP System Academic Affairs Committee (AAC) and the President’s Advisory Council (PAC) in meetings held at UP Los Baños last Sept. 13 and 14, respectively. (Mr. Carlson B. Alelis, IPO with sources from the Office of the Chancellor)
