In line with the incoming Charter Day celebration, one of the activities of the General Services Office (GSO) particularly on the Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) is “Trash to Cash” at Sunburst Park on Aug. 19 from 9 am to 4 pm.
The collected trash will be converted into cash to be participated by 13 pilot barangays.
These include Boulevard, Calaparan, Compania Central, Salvacion Habog-habog, Sto. Niño Norte, West Habog-habog, Bakhaw, Buntatala, Benedicto, East Baluarte, North Baluarte, South Baluarte, and Tanza Esperanza.
They are performing efficient SWMP so they will sell the recyclables such as plastics, bottles, steel, wires, and cans they collected starting from the first week of August.
The villages have been provided with mobile Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) for transport.
City Government employees and adjacent barangays are also encouraged to support the undertaking.
GSO coordinated with the partner junkshops that entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
The initiative aims to showcase that the city’s SWMP is functioning and activities are being worked out to address solid waste problems.
The eco-friendly endeavor is supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation, European Union, and Central Philippine University. (Iloilo City PIO SPES)
