The Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC) Molo Campus, together with the Philippine Foremost Milling Corporation and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, conducted skills assistance to 30 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas issued Executive Order No. 173 creating the Technical Working Group for the Iloilo City Livelihood and Skills Training Programs for PDLs Iloilo City District Jail—Male Dormitories, Ungka, Jaro.
TIIC Administrator Maria Mathilde G. Treñas and Alternative Learning System (ALS) Coordinator Grecian Villanueva initiated the training which started on Sept. 15 and ended on Nov. 15.
“TIIC provides the tools and materials and qualified trainers needed for the conduct of the jail pantry training. This program aims to provide necessary skills to participants by providing them with opportunities to improve their skills, knowledge, and attitude in the workplace,” TIIC Molo Institution Representative Kurt Arthur Nietes said.
They were taught how to make food preserves such as peanut butter and papaya relish or atsara and assorted cookies, loaf bread, and burger buns for their daily menu as part of their bread and pastry making.
“Upon completion, the trainees should be able to bake the types of bread and pastries and process the food preserves included in the program. Also, they can start small businesses in rehabilitation centers or their homes,” Nietes added.
The income-generating activities will help them earn for their upkeep while teaching them proper kitchen sanitation, the use of kitchen tools and equipment, and skills in bread and pastry making and food preservation.
This is also to support their families financially as soon as they leave their rehabilitation. (Angelo Miranda/Iloilo City PIO)
Great news to support their families financially as soon as they leave their rehabilitation.
