Iloilo City will be joining the World Smart City Expo (WSCE) 2022 and Knowledge Exchange Program in Ilsan, Korea from August 30 to September 2, 2022.

This, was after Mayor Jerry P. Treňas was invited by Madhu Raghunath, Sector Leader for Sustainable Development for Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand, East Asia and Pacific Region of World Bank (WB).

Treňas will send Councilor Johnny Young on his behalf to the trip sponsored by WB.

He hopes this will help promote the city to the global arena as well as support the implementation of programs and projects in the metropolis.

“We are pleased to invite you to participate in the World Smart City Expo and the associated knowledge exchange program. This event is organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of the Republic of Korea and supported by the World Bank’s Urban, Resilience and Land Global Practice,” Raghunath wrote Treňas.

The largest smart city event in the Asia-Pacific region is where governments, companies, and experts from all over the world gather to discuss a livable, sustainable, and inclusive city using smart urban solutions.

It features a wide array of programs including conferences, seminars, exhibitions, business-related events, and fit-for-purpose side events.

Some field visits will also be organized to demonstrate how smart city concepts are put into practice in urban planning and management.

The objectives include:

1.) learn various smart city initiatives for improved urban service delivery, leveraging emerging technologies, and solutions;

2.) provide a platform for technical knowledge sharing and peer learning around digital transformation and ecosystem; and;

3.) support cities to identify smart city initiatives relevant to their development context.

Delegates will share their knowledge and experiences, and interact with government agencies, corporate representatives, and technical experts in spatial planning, urban infrastructure and services, data governance, and geospatial technology and system integration.

They will also develop a set of action plans and prioritized investments which will be presented on the last day of the program. (Iloilo City PIO)
