Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry Treñas Recognized as “Resilience Champion”

Mayor Jerry Treñas received the citation was given by the National Resilience Council during the 2022 Colloquium.

This recognition is for Iloilo City’s LGU’s display of dynamic leadership and unwavering dedication to achieving resiliency and sustainability in the city. This includes Mayor Treñas’ firm commitment and active engagement in the Resilient LGU Program which continues to serve as an inspiration to all.

“Bugal ko guid nga ipabalo sa tanan nga ginkilala ang aton pagtinguha nga proteksyunan ang aton mga kasimanwa kag mapadasig ang pagresponde sa mga krisis,” Treñas said.

The National Resilience Council (“NRC”) commits to build a resilient Philippines using science and technology-based public-private partnerships, enhance internal capacities of local government units (“LGUs”) with evidence-informed risk governance, strengthen and sustain high-level collaboration between national government agencies and industry, and implement the resilience program with a core group of LGUs.

“The city has recently received several awards: the National Resilience Champion from the National Resilience Council co-chaired by Sec. Delfin Lorenzana and Mr. Henry Sy Jr., the 100 % compliance on reporting on our vaccinations of over 1-million, and finally, the highest number of Safety Seal certificates issued in a city,” he added.

Iloilo City shared strategies and successful best practices in the National Resilience Council (“NRC”) 2020 Colloquium online to be keynoted by United Nations (“UN”) Disaster Risk Reduction (“DRR”) top executives. Mayor Jerry Treñas also discussed the developments the metropolis is taking on its way toward resilience.

Ginsigurado ko guid nga indi mapabay-an ang aton mga kasimanwa labi na guid sa sini nga pandemya kay importante ang kada kabuhi sang akon mga pumuluyo. Indi ko gusto nga mabudlayan kag masakitan sila,” Trenas stressed.

“Ang akon pag-alagad nagapadayon para sa buwas-damlag sang akon mga pinalangga nga mga Ilonggo,” he concluded.

The NRC is principally supported by the Philippines’ leading conglomerates. It is also the lead implementing partner of the UNDRR’s Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (“ARISE”) Philippines.
