Philippine Ballet Theatre Show at Iloilo Convention Center

Iloilo City’s efforts to be the center of culture and arts got boost as the Philippine Ballet Theatre (PBT) brings the Ibalon Voyage and Jose Mari Chan Suite at Iloilo Convention Center (Icon) on Aug. 19 at 6:30pm.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the world-class ballet showcase is a fitting tribute in time of the celebration of Iloilo City 86th Charter Day which will highlight on Aug. 25.

Free tickets will be available Friday Aug. 4 at the Office of the Special Assistant to the Mayor or contact Lenie Rose Camino at 09462065726 or Donna Alora Jean Peñol at 09468978397.

PBT’s much-awaited spectacle for the Ilonggos has been made possible through the support of sponsors Mr. Chan, former Sen. Franklin Drilon, former Tourism Secretary Narzalina Lim, Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran Floirendo, Alfonso and Allan Tan, Nila Gonzalez, Claravall-Gonzalez School of Ballet, Lynnie Denila’s Floral Designs, SM City Iloilo and Seda Hotel.

Treñas signed a Memorandum of Agreement with PBT President Marie Louise K. Magsaysay relative to the staging of the production.

The mayor is elated of the artistic extravaganza coming over to Iloilo City which boosts the promotions of the metropolis as a favorite destination.

Showcasing the music of beloved Ilonggo songwriter and singer, Mr. Chan, PBT also presents “Dance on the Wings of Song” which was originally staged for Filipinos in New York and Los Angeles in 2022.

Spectators will be singing to the tunes of love, loss, happiness and heartache as PBT dances to popular hits, “Please be Careful with my Heart,” “Mamang Sorbetero,” “Movie Fan,” “Beautiful Girl” and many more.

An excerpt from its full-length version based on a famous epic will feature the voyage of Handyong and his friends to find the kingdom of Ibalon but the journey proved long and difficult. Lost at sea, they were about to give up. It was then that the perfect cone of Mt. Mayon showed itself, finally welcoming them to Ibalon, PBT noted.

Founded in 1986, PBT is a resident ballet company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines which uses dance to build community and cultural bridges, and prides itself as the pre-eminent classical ballet and contemporary dance company in the country today.

The company, already known for its classical repertoire, continues to forge fresh performance art through the fusion of European classical technique, regional interpretation, and experimental forms designed to deliver a contemporary ballet experience, uniquely PBT. (Iloilo City PIO)
