New Public Markets Still under City Gov’t

The construction of New Central and Terminal (Super) Markets will be at no cost to the Iloilo City Government.

SM Prime Holdings will develop the two markets, including parking spaces, water systems, comfort rooms, wastewater treatment plant, solid waste management, Material Recovery Facility (MRF), security, and CCTVs, among others.

After renovation, all registered and legitimate stall owners and vendors will be accommodated which will be operated by the City Government through the Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO). No one will be displaced.

City Government will also maintain all the other facilities, utilities, and parking areas in the markets.
There will be no increase in market rentals and fees which will still be remitted to the City Government.

“We shall continue with our consultations with the vendors and other stakeholders regarding this project, and we take into consideration all suggestions and concerns,” said Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.

“Together, let us aim to have modern, cleaner, flood-free, and improved public markets for the Ilonggos as we bring Iloilo City to the next level,” Treñas stressed. (Iloilo City PIO)
