Multi-Purpose Buildings to Spur Development in Iloilo City Districts

“The Department of Public Works and Highways (“DPWH”) is constructing new multi-purpose buildings (“MPB”). These will provide additional facilities in various districts of Iloilo City.

On-going in the district of Lapuz is the construction of the Iloilo City Sports Complex (Jalandoni Sports Center). Its location is in Jalandoni Memorial National High School. This will provide a standard, comfortable, conducive training environment that would help Iloilo develop competitive athletes.

The new sports center will also enable Iloilo City to host major sports-related activities such as “Palarong Pambansa”, thereby boosting tourism and the economy.

With an allotment of P200 million funded under the District’s Local Infrastructure Program (“LIP”), the multi-year project consists of three (3) two-story buildings with a total floor area of 5,184 square meters.

An initial amount of ₱50 million was released in 2020 to jumpstart the project. This involved earthworks and concrete works. The inclusions are rooting, column, slab on the ground floor, and partial construction of suspended slab on the second floor.

Meanwhile, in the districts of Jaro and Molo, newly-completed MPBs now serve as a venue for the academic, social, and fitness development of Ilonggos.

Likewise, the DPWH Iloilo City District Engineering Office (“DEO”) has finished a P8-million MPB in Jaro National High School. In addition, a P4.46-million in good condition community hall in Molo is now up for venue of various functions. This includes other events where the local government is the organizer. Lastly, this aims to serve as a temporary shelter for locals during calamities and other emergencies.
