UPV-CFOS Welcomes Exchange Student from Kagoshima University Anew

After two years after the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UP Visayas College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (UPV-CFOS) recently welcomed an exchange student from Kagoshima University (KU), Japan.

CFOS, led by dean Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap, formally welcomed Mizuki Murashita and Assoc. Prof. Munechika Ishizaki in a ceremony held at the Conference Room, CFOS, UPV Miagao campus on October 24, 2022. 

Murashita is a first-year MS Fisheries Resource Science at the Graduate School of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, Kagoshima University. She is currently enrolled at UPV-CFOS this First Semester of AY 2022-2023. She is taking up two subjects, specifically Fish 220 (Special Topics) and MA 208 (Coastal Resource Assessment and Management).  

Murashita has been attending classes online. She is in the University to conduct fieldwork and field sampling from October 22 until November 13, 2022.

Meanwhile, a graduate student of UPV-CFOS earned six units from KU. Ms. Bea Angelic Garcia, a second-year MS Fisheries (Aquaculture), enrolled in four subjects – Aquaculture, Aquatic Biology, Latest Analytical and Experimental Methods (Basic Biology and Open). She attended classes at KU from August 22 until September 25, 2022.

The student exchange program between UPV-CFOS and KU is being implemented since 2015 under the Postgraduate (Masters) Programme on Tropical Fisheries with International Linkage (ILP). The ILP is an international higher education alliance of fishery-related postgraduate schools in Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Taiwan.

UPV, thru CFOS, is one of the member schools in the Philippines of the international linkage program. ILP is participated by eight universities from seven countries in Asia, namely Sam Ratulangi University (Indonesia), Kagoshima University (Japan) University of the Philippines Visayas (Philippines), Kasetsart University (Thailand) Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (Malaysia) Nha Trang University (Vietnam), IPB University (Indonesia) and National Chiayi University (Taiwan). 

The program allows students from participating schools to gain additional certification by taking at least 6 credit units from any member schools of the ILP. (Ms. Lenilyn B. Gallos, CFOS)
