Iloilo Reports 1st Coronavirus Case; 2nd for Western Visayas

ILOILO, Philippines – The city and provincial government of Iloilo reported its first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus.

In a press conference Saturday afternoon, March 21, DOH 6 Director Dr. Marlyn Convocar, together with Mayor Jerry P. Trenas and Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., said that the patient is a 65-year-old Filipino male from Guimbal, who was a person under investigation for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The patient had an exposure with relatives who had travel history from Japan.

They will conduct immediate intensive contract tracing to find the people who may have close contact to the patient.

Iloilo City and Province are both under an enhanced community quarantine that restricts travel to and from the locality to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19.

Everyone is encouraged to comply with the enhanced community quarantine, wash their hands frequently and maintain social distancing to help mitigate the spread of the virus.
