Iloilo City Government was recognized for its efforts in pushing for practices for Materials Recovery Facilities Operations, Composting Operations, Upcycling and Crafts Production, Sanitary Landfill Operations, Closure and Rehabilitation of Dumpsites, and other innovative practices by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region 6 at Diversion 21 Hotel here June 7.
The recognition was given during the awarding ceremony of the outstanding solid waste management practices in the region among 27 awardees including Central Philippine University, Iloilo Province, Municipalities of Alimodian, Ajuy, Lambunao, Carles, Concepcion, Oton, Passi City, Guimaras Province; Municipalities of Bugasong, Sibalom, and Patnongon in Antique; Capiz Province and Municipalities of Ivisan, Dumarao, Dao, and Pan-ay; Province of Negros Occidental, and Cities of Sipalay, Kabankalan, San Carlos, and Talisay, Municipality of Pulupandan, and Brgy. Mambulac, Silay City; and Municipality of Buruanga, Aklan.
EMB-6 piloted the Regional Launching of the National Plan of Action for the Prevention, Reduction, and Management of Marine Litter (NPOA-ML) in the country with several Western Visayas LGUs, environmental leaders, and private sector.
The event was attended by DENR Undersecretary for Enforcement, Solid Waste Management, Local Government Units Concerns and Attached Agencies, Ret. MGen Benito Antonio De Leon; EMB Director Engr. William P. Cuñado; EMB Assistant Director, Engr. Vizminda Osorio and DENR 6 Regional Executive Director Livino B. Duran; and EMB 6 Chief of Environmental Management and Enforcement Division Vicente Losbañes.
