Iloilo City Bike Culture Wins Galing Pook

“I-BIKE” A Program Promoting the Development of the Iloilo City Bike Culture won the Galing Pook Award 2022 during the recognition rites at Malacañan Palace on Nov. 22.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. gave the Plaque honoring the Top 10 outstanding Local Government Units in the country.

“Galing Pook is about good governance and projects worthy of emulation by other local government units. This will cap the awards we have been receiving. Congratulations to all the Ilonggo community. This is for you!” Mayor Jerry Treñas stressed.

He commended the City Government personnel, partners, and stakeholders for supporting and strengthening the inclusive bike initiative.

The program enhances bike lane networks which improved the connectivity of establishments, and the city biking culture was promoted as the Bike Capital of the Philippines.

The mayor presented to the panel of judges and shared about the bike events doubling in early 2022, the bike community being involved with active participation; various arts, culture, and heritage bike tours, women cyclists prowess, and Iloilo Bike Festival which proved that it is safe to tour around the city.

The additional citation to the city’s growing reputation as a cycling haven hopes to attract more visitors to enjoy and experience the many attractions and things to do in the metropolis.

Only 18 finalists were chosen from out of 196 applications of the best and most innovative local government programs that exemplified citizens’ participation and delivered positive results and impact.

This year’s awards are co-presented by the Galing Pook Foundation, with SM Prime Holdings, Inc. and the Department of the Interior and Local Government – Local Government Academy.

Galing Pook is a leading resource institution that recognizes, capacitates, and promotes innovation, sustainability, citizen empowerment, and excellence in local governance. (Iloilo City PIO)
