Huawei Guests Explore a Partnership with UPV

Two guests from the cellphone company Huawei were at the UP Visayas Miagao campus on October 27, 2022, to discuss a possible partnership with the University. Mr. Li Yung and Mr. Chahol were met by Vice Chancellor for Administration, Prof. John Lorenz Belanio, and Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, Dr. Harold Monteclaro.

Also present during the meeting was Philippine Genome Center Visayas Director Dr. Victor Marco Emmanuel Ferriols, who later took them for a tour of PGC Visayas.

Potential partnerships, particularly on the online Huawei Academy, were discussed. Training modules formulated by the academy can be provided to UPV. Faculty members from the BS Computer Science program can be trained to teach the modules and they can eventually be trainers themselves. Students who finish the module get a certification.

Also present during the meeting was College of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean Prof. Nilo Araneta, who is a BS CS faculty member, and Prof. Rhea Subong-Espina, Coordinator of the Data and Information Systems Program. (Ms. Mary Lyncen Fernandez, IPO)
