La Paz, Iloilo City – Netizen Danilo Pedrajas Jr posted on Facebook about the kind gesture of an anonymous person who left a box of food and water for the stray cats and dogs in the area of La Paz plaza.
Written in the box are the words “huwag mawalan ng pag-asa, labanan natin ang corona sa pamamagitan ng dasal at pagkakaisa” which encourages everyone not to lose hope; that we can beat corona through prayers and teamwork.
In the Facebook Page of Team Aspin of Iloilo City or TAIL, they are also encouraging everyone to provide left-over food and water outside their houses or apartment because stray dogs and cats are also affected by the enhanced community quarantine around Iloilo City and Iloilo Province.
Animals are Also Affected
This pandemic has affected more than 100,000 people across the globe and animals are likewise affected. WHO has confirmed that dogs cannot contact the virus but some may die due to starvation. Animals can neither speak when they are hungry, nor join the line where relief goods are being distributed.
Strays are dependent on restaurant and eatery left-overs or people passing along the streets to hand them some food. Now that a huge percentage are staying at home and these restaurant and food places are temporarily closing, their supply of food also decreases.
How to Stay Healthy Around Animals
It is always a good idea to maintain healthy habits around your own pets. After handling their food, wastes and supplies, wash your hands thorougly. Wash hands also after playing with them.
If you are sick, refrain from contacting with your pets. If you have other family members, ask them to look after your pets while you are sick. These contact we should restrict includes but not limited to petting, being kissed or licked and snuggling.
