The construction of a four-story Uswag Low-Rise Residential Building that will benefit low-salaried Iloilo City Government employees is almost half-finished.
The project accomplishment has reached 40.90%. This included concrete pouring for water tank slab and columns, masonry work, plastering of walls, and installation of table forms and rebars for slab columns and slab.
The 120-residential unit with a floor area of 30 square meters (sqm) in two twin buildings is rising on a 2,741 sqm, a portion of the 16.2-hectare Uswag Subdivision owned by the City Government, located in Brgy. San Isidro, Jaro.
The P247-M Housing Balance Compliance Project of SM Development Corporation (SMDC) was approved for implementation by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
The housing shelter assistance will require a fee of P2,000 monthly for homeowners’ contributions for the maintenance of the building, development of cooperatives, livelihood projects, and social development funds.
This is open to employees who are head of the family, have no real property, have not availed of any housing program, and are bonafide residents of the city for five years.
The initiative is in response to the scarcity of land due to fast development resulting in limited space.
One of the priorities of the City Government’s WHEELS program under Welfare will provide housing opportunities for low-income workers without their own homes.
Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) head Rony Firmeza said they are closely working with SMDC and DHSUD to fast-track the completion.
It is expected to be completed and turned over in 2024. (Alexandra Jover/Iloilo City PIO)
