Congresswoman Nava Sets Priorities for the Last Term in Congress

Guimaras Congresswoman Ma. Lucille Nava shared her priorities for her last term as the province’s representative to Congress.

Nava said in her speech during the inaugural session of the 10th Sangguniang Panlalawigan last July 5, 2022, held at the Provincial Covered Gym that her priority is to provide the province with better infrastructures.

“We have geared towards what we have considered as an integral requirement for progress, that is better infrastructure. For we firmly believe that this is the foundation for economic growth,” she underscored.

For her first six years in office, the lawmaker completed concreting of 70 road sections with roads leading to tourism areas as her prime concern.

The improvement of tourism roads will continue for the next three years coupled with the development of access roads to adjacent barangays.

“We have given importance to roads leading to tourism areas for we have hope that with better road network, we could support and promote the tourism potentials of our province. Our plan is to continually improve more of our tourism roads in order to strengthen one of our economic anchors,” she promised.

Congresswoman Nava will also push for the conversion of major provincial roads in Guimaras to national roads.

She vowed that the three remaining barangays who have no covered court yet will have their covered court constructed before her term ends in 2025.

In the aim to deliver better health services to the Guimarasnons, the office of Congresswoman Nava has allowed an additional Php 95 million for the construction of the annex building of the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital (DCGNPH).

Nava said one of her main priorities for her remaining years in Congress is to upgrade DCGNPH into a Level 2 hospital with a 100-bed capacity.

The legislator disclosed that the construction of the biggest irrigation project in Guimaras – the Cabano Small Reservoir Impounding Project – will commence this year.

The facility is expected to benefit around 1,000 farmers from six adjacent barangays in the Municipality of San Lorenzo.

“Our ultimate plan is to strengthen the sector in agriculture as well as give focus on our flagship commodity, our famous mangoes. For agriculture has always been our main economic driver hand-in-hand with tourism,” she said.

Congresswoman Nava pledges that the financial, and medical assistance to the needy and the educational assistance to college and senior high school students will continue.

Every year almost 4,000 college students and 5,000 senior high school students avail themselves of the educational assistance released through the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The lawmaker however emphasized that her dreams for the Guimarasnons will not materialize if not for the support of the people in Guimaras.

“Let me take this moment to thank each and every one of you for all that we have achieved for the past six years and years before that. We all did this together. Unified by the same dream, the same goal, and the same passion for a better Guimaras,” she said.
