The Uswag Skills Enhancement and Livelihood Program (USELP) has implemented a three-month Computer Literacy training for Out-of-School Youth (OSY).
The 50 beneficiaries are unemployed OSY ages 15-24 years old.
The course covers knowledge and skills in executing basic commands of different Microsoft software, identifying major components of a computer system, working with e-mail, and using an Internet browser.
The City Government has resumed its free livelihood and skills training program at the Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC) Molo Campus to provide OSY with opportunities and address poverty and economic issues brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This will be of big help for OSYs to develop their skills, especially on basic computers,” said TIIC Molo Administrator Maria Mathilde Treňas.
Certificates will be given to the trainees who finished the corresponding hours of the training.
The initiative aims to address the problems among OSY such as economic reasons, unemployment, and the need for work experience, and increase awareness of the rights of children through skills training and livelihood projects.
It also seeks to benefit OSYs for them to be more productive, and well-equipped with skills to support themselves and their family and to give opportunity for education through short-term courses.
