The entry of UP Fisheries Guild (UPFG), College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), and UP Visayas (UPV), won in the 2022 Coastal Clean-Up Video Challenge of the National Youth Commission (NYC).
UPFG, one of the student organizations of UPV-CFOS, was one of the top five winners in the competition, the NYC announced on their Facebook page last November 25, 2022. The competition was part of the International Coastal Clean-up Day celebration last Sept. 17.
UPFG’s entry was the coastal clean-up activity that they conducted along the coast of UPV last September 16, 2022. More than 100 volunteers from various organizations of UPV joined the undertaking. The initiative gathered around 40 large bags of trash of plastics, styrofoam, milk tea cups, soda bottles, and dry sacks.
The group urged everyone to remain proactive against marine debris as dependents of the sea.
The five winning groups received a P10,000.00 cash prize.
The competition was open to all youth organizations including the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK). The participating group submitted a video-recorded clean-up activity from coastal, urban, or inland sites conducted on or before September 17. (Ms. Lenilyn B. Gallos, with sources from UPFG)
