Jan Christian T. Palma, from Miag-ao Town in southern Iloilo Province, is a fresh graduate of B.S. in Architecture from the Iloilo Science and Technology University in Lapaz District, Iloilo City.
“Art is a medicine. It allows healing for the sick in all aspects – mentally, emotionally, physically and even spiritually,” he says. “Art for me is an holistic approach for every individual who wants happiness, courage, will and humility to face the challenges of life, especially amid the Covid19 pandemic.”
Palma credits trailblazing Iloilo artist Vic Fario for helping him appreciate and value art. “As one of his former students, I remember the joy every time we painted,” he says.
Palma also became part of Fario’s community work on neighboring Guimaras Island, distributing art materials and allowing children to paint.
“The joy in the children’s faces usually left us very emotional as they proudly raised their artworks for us to see and appreciate. Art shows how able our God is – He is a great designer and artist of the universe.”
